When you’re always on a tight schedule, setting aside enough time for exercise can be a real challenge. In fact, many people who are so eager to become healthier and stronger never get around to workout out because they’re convinced that they’re too busy.

If you’re having trouble balancing regular workouts with other responsibilities, here are some tips to help you get started.

It starts with a plan.
Planning all your important activities at the start of the week will make it easier to determine the best schedule for your workouts. Once you’ve identified the ideal time, record it on your computer or smartphone calendar and make it a repeat event. If you keep a to-do list, be sure to divide all your activities into multiple categories based on their urgency or importance so you can easily squeeze in your exercises.

Reduce your screen time.
If you always find yourself aimlessly watching television or browsing your Facebook or Twitter feed, you may have more time on your hands than you think. You should consider setting a time limit for activities like these. Make sure they won’t take up several hours each day so you’ll have ample time for a good workout regimen.

Try micro workouts.
Don’t let yourself sit idly at your workstation for more than two hours at a time. Take a break at regular intervals so you can have time for stretching or brief workouts. Some people do quick and simple bodyweight exercises throughout each day. A few minutes of basic exercises such as pushups or lunges can help keep your metabolism up and stave off the ill effects of a sedentary lifestyle.

Get the intensity up.
Make the most of your quick workouts by increasing the intensity. Try to maintain explosiveness in all your micro workouts, instead of sticking to a routine that doesn’t make you break a sweat. Add more resistance to your pushups or sit-ups, quickly move from one exercise to another, and add cardiovascular workouts in-between your strength exercises. It also helps to keep a record of all your workouts so you can continually ramp them up.

Keep a positive mindset.
Your workouts won’t take you very far if you keep a negative outlook. Approach each exercise with a positive mindset, and never let yourself be discouraged by setbacks. Keep an attitude that supports your new, healthier lifestyle, instead of constantly thinking that you’re too busy to exercise.  Make your health a priority, and never let trivial matters drain your motivation.

If you want to stay in the pink of health, making time for regular exercise goes without saying. Follow these simple tips, and you’ll be able to follow a great exercise regimen no matter how busy your schedule is.
