We all possess the amazing power known as creativity. Many of us express ourselves through art, dance, song and literature, but these are not the only avenues in which we can tap into our artistic and imaginative prowess. Creativity can spontaneously ignite and manifest itself in different facets of our lives — from the way we wear our clothes, to the way we interact with friends, family, co-workers and even strangers.
We all have this innate urge to create and express our uniqueness. However, despite being born with a deep well of imagination and artistry, there are those who eventually succumb to the norms and beliefs prevalent in our society. Unfortunately, creativity can wane as we grow older.
But you know what? It never disappears!
Our brain has an amazing quality called neuroplasticity. It can adapt and form new pathways even when we’re already well into adulthood. The brain is so amazingly flexible and adaptable that dormant creativity can be awakened.
Of course, unlocking your creative side is not easy. It will require persistence, commitment and a great deal of introspection. And I am here to help you with that. I want to guide you on your quest to recapturing the enthusiasm, gumption, and energy of youth by awakening the creative power within you.
I’ve put together these four steps to help you get started.
1. Pinpoint your mental barriers.
Your own beliefs, thoughts, and ideas may be keeping you from expressing yourself creatively. Identify, confront and resolve them.
2. Change the way you think.
Your very own perception of creativity and its various outlets could be limiting your creative response. If you’re often reluctant and make excuses to avoid creative pursuits, take a step back and allow your imagination take hold. Don’t be hindered by negative thoughts — focus on all the positive aspects and possibilities that await you.
3. Surround yourself with creativity.
Go to places that ignite your spirit, and spend time with family, friends and colleagues who support your creative pursuits. For many artists, nothing gets the creative juices flowing more than being surrounded by inspiring sights, scents, sounds and people who bring out the best in them.
4. Believe in what you can do.
We all have a different way of expressing our creativity. Whether you dabble in the arts or show your creative power in mundane day-to-day activities, always trust yourself and have complete faith in your abilities. It’s up to you to decide what you can and cannot do. Nothing should stop you from expressing, experimenting and learning.
Awakening your creativity will help you see the world differently. You will be bolder, braver and more daring, with more ways to express your uniqueness. You’ll see life’s obstacles as opportunities for creativity, and the idea of confronting them will excite you. Creativity is indeed powerful.
This is really inspiring. Awakening your creativity will help you see the world differently. Thanks for this!
